I've raced it against our 98 Suzuki Quadrunner 500 and about 45-50 is all shes got on the quad's speedometer. I have not checked the quad against anything else. Clutch isnt slipping, engine runs great - it was recently in at the dealer and they were amazed at how good it looked internally because we have been far from kind to it. This is the year that doesnt have the high/low range, so I'm outta luck there.

How much air you runnin Big_Red? I've got about 1.5 in 25x12 turf tamers.

I would bet they did gear these 3 wheelers down from the 200's because of safety concerns. Seems like there were alot of people getting hurt on the faster ones - that's probably why they stopped making them (3-wheelers).

 

Yeah Jenksboy, I'm not very kind to my machine either . I have 25x12.5x9 Kenda Bear Claws on with 2.5 psi in them. When I am going wide open on those roads, you'd swear the motor was gonna blow a hole in the side because its making so many noises, but my uncle took his back to the dealer not long after he got his because of the noises (his is an 85) and they said this was normal and he could run it like that all he wanted and he promised it wouldn't blow up. My dad's new 300 makes the same noises so I'm not that concerned about it. What these machines need is another gear!

I do agree with the gearing down thing though because my dad also owns an 84 Big Red and it has hi/lo range. It will barely pull itself along in 5th gear unless you have a really good run in 4th. The motor is quite worn out though, but it will still hang with dad's 300 until we hit a hill, then he leaves me WAY behind (this was before I got my 86).

Just so I don't confuse to many people, I got my 86 last February secondhand.
