You were wise to buy a manual. Anyone who rides and owns their own bike should have one.

when I first did it everyone just talked about changing the main and pilot so that's what I did. It still let off back fired like a champ so I used the manual to take the carb apart which I got a little freaked out a couple of times but I was careful and hung in there. I moved the needle clip so it was one notch richer and that was all she wrote. I use an outerwear on my airbox but I want something more durable so I'm thinking about getting either an EHS racing lid that uses outerwears and a bracket to mount to the lid or I seen something in the new ATV Sport that looks like you mount it into your stock lid and it has a filter and a slide that lets you open or close the opening in the air box.

www.repairmanual.com is where I got my Clymer manual from. It cost $20 and was at my door in 3 or 4 days it helps my non-mechanic self out a lot.

With just a slip on you don't need to rejet a lot of the time but if you put a higher flowing air filter or open up the airbox or do both you will need to match the fuel flow to the newly increased air flow especialy on an air cooled engine that can tend to run hot anyways. Just increasing the exhaust flow in and of itself will increase air flow a little and could cause a slightly lean condition. Not to mention if your going to spend 200 - 250 bucks on a slip on why not get the biggest gain you can and spend 30 - 50 bucks on and air filter and 10 bucks on jets and adjust the stock needle.

Another jetting link...actually, takes the whole carb into consideration. I use this one for trying to diagnose which aspect of the carb I need to monkey with, depending on where in the power band I'm having trouble.
Maybe this will help some.
