I will be buying a new atv next month, I have narrowed the feild down to the '00 kodiak or 'oo rancher. I live in ALASKA and will be using mostly for hunting but some playing also. Any info is welcome on the above machines. The rancher is due here in February so haven't rode this machine yet. Thanks

Well, what do you like better, automatic or manual/electric shift? Do you need a 2wd/4wd option?

the 99 kodial and 2000 kodiak are not near of been the same machine... different motor, different transmission and different frame. I think that these two machine are excellent quads, you will be happy with both of theme. I think that the rancher has a better front differential but the kodiak as the option of 2WD. Wait until you ride both to make up your mind.

Over the past 18 or so years I have owned different makes of ATVs . I have been left in the bush because of breakdowns , but not once was I ever left stranded by a Honda .
You won't go wrong with the Rancher . I have a 300 4 x 4 , 350 4 x 4 Rancher and a 450 4x 4 foreman . If I had to choose only one it would deffinetly be the Rancher .

Bama,i went to a dealer who sells both and could have purchased either and after riding both it was easy to pick the Rancher ES 4x4 over the 2000 Kodiak 4x4.But that is only my opinion,I suggest that you do the same.

The Rancher has a primer and a heater coil on the carb so cold weather starting and running won't be a problem. Not sure if the Kodiak has these features.
