Default Will a Recon keep up to a Sportsman 500?

My buddy who I will be primarily riding has a 96 Polaris Sportsman 500 4x4. It has been pretty good to him except, earlier this year he had to put about $800 in fixing the front end and the 4x4. If I ride with him in a Recon, I should be able to keep up shouldn't I? Or will his 500 blow me away? Thanks. I hope this isn't a dumb question, I don't know too much about quads.

The Recon is a Great little quad. It depends on what kind of riding you are doing. If it is tight trail riding with a lot of sharp turns and narrow sections, your buddy might want to stay home. If it is rough terain and Big hill climbs, you might still make it OK, but the advantage is going to go to the bigger more powerful 4x4. If you are riding big open areas or logging roads, you probably wouldn't be able to match his top speed (Not sure what it is), but you won't be too far behind.

We ride with a big variety of different size quads, from a Recon to my KFX700. You don't have to be the fastest to have fun. If he's a real Buddy, he'll stay with ya, and you the same. Remember, experiance plays a big part in riding a quad. Don't go over your limitations trying to keep up, cause if you screw up, that quad will get cha.
