250X motor work!!!!!!
Hey i am looking at a 92 250X, it's in rough shape but really cheap($250). It needs plastic and the motor previously smoked, was taken apart to be rebuilt, and was not rebuilt. The motor has been apart for 3 months max. I was wondering if this a godd find and what else should i do to the motor while changing pistons and rings? I would like a little more power while the motors apart i just want to know if there are any must haves. Thanx

Since you need a new piston bump up the compresion of the piston to 11:1 put in a new performance cam. Depending on the cam you buy hardend rockers, stiffer valve springs, and titanium retainers would be required. I am not positive but I think "hot cams" offer a cam that doesn't require those other parts, and there is no core charge. That will give you a decent increase in power without spending too much money or being unreliable.
PS beware of a falty 2nd gear in 87' model year 250X's. My 87' X never had a problem but other people have reported loosing second.

Well I am not sure about on the net but I beleave they have a fairly good sized ad in any newish Dirtwheels magazine, I don't have one handy but theres probably an e-mail address on the ad.
It's NOT hotcams.com.....definatly don't go there if your looking for a cam....
