2002 honda recon es problems
#1
I have a recon es that is stuck in neutral with 1st gear light flashing. At first when this happened we could shift it manually. Now we can't even get it to start. Almost like a safety switch is on. Turn the key and all you get is the flashing 1st gear light. Can anyony help? Is there a recall on this. I've read several other people have the problem but I haven't seen an answer to anyone's question.

Yes found the problem. At first they thought it was a recall on the transmission. Evidently some recon es 2002 models had a hole bored too large for the shifter prong. It would slip out. but mine was just out of the engine number for the recall so honda authorized the dealer to find out what it was in case they needed to extend the recall. Well that wasn't the problem. It ended up being a angle censor and an o-ring. Togeather with an oil and filter change cost me $160.00. Hope that helps. Call honda and ask about the recall. They can tell you the engine numbers that cover it. Otherwise check out the Angle Censor.

I have a 2003 Recon ES and had the same problem. The 1st gear light would blink 3 times. The first time I took it to the dealer and they told me that the clutch was out of adjustment and that they fixed it. After I got it home for a ride, it still did the same thing so I took it back again and they took another look at it and found out that the problem was the angle sensor. This part was covered under my extended warranty. Hope your back riden.

No kiss but a bit of new information. This happened again in Tennessee so took it to a shop up there. They charged $128.00 for a oil change and to check all of the connections. Guess what after they tightened all the loose bolts and reconnected the battery it works fine. I'm beginning to wonder if with the electronic shift if maybe something is just jarring loose and causing an error code. Before I take it to the shop again I will check for loose connections disconnect the battery to reset the computer.
