If they build a 650 two stroke and they build it right which im sure they will. They are going to sell a lot of bikes.

Gentlemen, I'm sorry but you don't even remotely have your facts straight. There is TWO RUMORS about new HONDA sport quads. The first IS a 650EX, however it is powered by the XR 650R engine. This motor happens to be a liquid cooled FOUR STROKE. In all likelyhood this WILL be Honda's new sport quad. It would be VERY similar to the Bombardier DS 650. The second RUMOR is what I WANT TO SEE. It is a 400R! The engine comes off of the Honda EXPERIMENTAL Baja race bike dubbed the EXP-2. You guessed it, it's a TWO STROKE!!!!! You can run a search engine on the EXP-2 to educate yourself on the topic. Try this: www.motorcycle.com/mo/mchonda/exp2_tech.html This is an article from Motorcycle Online that I printed Nov. of '99 and saved to LUST over!!

Yes fellas i agree with mindcrime. I know of a 650ex and it was built as a project quad by dirtwheels to test against the 400ex and the ds650. I have also heard of a 400r but to my knowledge, it is just a rumor as of yet. If you want to see the 650ex its in a earlier issue of dw.

yeah, it was the air cooled XR 600 Plant, But if the DS is a sucess then expect a Liquid cooled 650 2-3 years later

I to agree with mindcrime. There are two seperate rumors. 1) a 650EX based on the current XR650R motor and 2) a 400cc 2-stoke based on the environment friendly, yet prototype EXP-2 motorcycle.

In my opinion we will see the 650EX before the 400R (if we ever see a 400R). If my memory serves me correctly, the reviews I read about the EXP-2 was that it had the power of a 250cc engine. With the sales success of the DS650 (evident by the increased production numbers) I think Honda would want to get their slice of the big bore "Sport ATV" pie ASAP. Remember Honda's new Mission Statement is: "Market Domination". Also I thnk it would be very expensive to tool up a EXP-2 engine for just an ATV. Without a motorcycle that uses basically the same engine I do not think it would be cost effective to tool up for just a 400R.

If anyone is interested in looking at the TRX600 that Dirt Wheels built, go to the March 2000 issue of Dirt Wheels.

Just my opinions,
John

everyone needs to get the information right...

The only reason that the EXP-2 was 400cc in displacement was to make sure that the Active Radical Combustion would work in the worst case scenario (high piston speeds, high volume) for combustion and pollution.

Honda will AVOID that displacement if at all possible. They would be more likely to build a 500cc ARC two-stroke (lower piston speeds, still high volume).

If they use the ARC technology, I'm sure that it would be in the ever-so-still-popular 250cc displacement... NOT 400!!!

JohnnyB actually missed the horsepower on the EXP-2. IT HAS 54hp WITH 58ft-lbs of torque. The original Fourtrax 250R had around 34-36 horsepower. With the much lighter two-stroke powerplant, the power-to-weight ratio would easily overpower EVEN the mighty DS650. I really like Clydesdales but PREFER ARABIANS!!!!! Sorry for the HORSEpower joke.
