Default Stock headlight alternative for 300 4x4

I have the Oxlite front bumper and winch mount on my '95 4x4 and to get it high enough to clear the ground when going through deep ditches it obstructs the headlights. I'm thinking of getting some of those mini halogen driving lights and mounting them either to the front of the stock brush guard or to the front bumper. I also plan to disconnect my stock headlights and use the existing wiring to power the new lights. Has anyone tried this and if so, what lights did you use? I want to keep my cost to a minimum. Dual beam would be awesome.

Also, what would be the highest wattage I should use? The stock bulbs are 25 watts each, would 55 watt bulbs pull too much current? I'll be disconnecting the stock lights.
