Polishing your stator cover is very easy on you 250R, polishing the clutch/water pump isn't! Believe me, I polished mine on my "R". Have patience if you want it to look good. I would recommend you having the paint removed by GLASS BEADING first. You CAN sand blast it but it takes longer to polish(sand digs in deeper). Feel free to E-mail me personally with any more questions on this.

start with a 220 sandpaper..sand the whole thing down..then work you're way higher...300, 400, 500, 600 and so, then finish it off using a mag wheel polish such as Mothers Aluminum Polish.

I did my cases on my Lt500 and 300ex first i used glass bead to remove the factory coating. They i went to home depot and purchased 3 dico buffing wheels with 3 different compounds. Polishing is a 3 step process. The first 2 wheels are the same but use 2 different compounds and the last is a really fine buffign wheel and a finish compund. It comes out to a mirror finish i have them on a slow rpm bench grinder and also have a hand held polisher or u can u a low rpm drill or one with a regulated speed. Tzoo fast and u will burn the alumium. Good luck., Take your time and it will look great

in referance to mindcrimes` post belive him it he lives acroos the street from me (and he does a good job of leaving a cloud of white smoke hazing over my back yard )and around the water pump is a cludy finish and on the stator you can see you`r self in it

I polished the covers with a 3/4 hp buffing wheel. Make sure you use a buffing wheel pad with plenty of spiral STITCHES, the more the better. White or brown ROUGE will work. I actually used two wheels-the first for brown and the second for fine polishing with the white compound. Be prepared to make a MESS. It would be smart to make a "backboard and floorboard" out of cardboard to help with cleanup(I WISH I HAD!!!)
