I hunted coons when I was younger, the price of pelts is next to nothing these days and there is a lot of better things that I could be doing... But every once in a while I get the itch, grab the boys, grab the dogs, grab the 10/22 and spotlights and go...

When I was a kid we had several great coon dogs. My dad and his friends hunted coons for the fight and kill. Animal rights nuts would scream at that.

Also years after that we attended many a "Coon on the Log" meet. All that was required was for the dog to get the coon off the log out in the middle of a pond. (the coon was chained to the log with a long chain) There was no killing allowed... other than the coon may drown the dog.
It was quite a sight.. a coon can be pretty nasty in water. Most dogs couldn't wait to be turned loose but as they swam out to the coon .. most would turn around.

I have a Blue Heeler that tears the crap out of coons, but he is getting pretty old right now. I don't see as many around as I used to. Them coons aren't any match for a 12 guage with buckshot.
