You never know what will cross your path while out hunting. There's always the possibility of it's dad or brother, walking around out there Be safe on your next trip a field. Lt. Dan

Catterman- If you were to buy Salmon in a store, (not that you have to) how much does it sell per pound? I'm just curious because I was out shopping tonight. $6.99 per pound for a salmon filet.

Commercial fisherman are I believe are getting $0.50 lb for Sockeye (red salmon), $0.25 lb for Coho (Silver salmon), $1.30 lb for King salmon at the canneries. Of course its then cleaned and filleted and delivered to the store. (Wo knows what that's worth?)

Nice Salmon Catterman. If that was your wife doing the filleting of the salmon I truely agree you have the best wife in the world.

in the late nineties, we were getting .05 cents/lb for pinks 1.15/lb for sockeye,,,,and .15/lb for the rest(dogs, silver).

that was if you had refrigeration on board (we did)

I havent kept up with prices as of late,,,,,,,but the greenhorns seem to be getting greener and greener every time I visit the docks.

Well there are two different kinds of salmon, fresh Alaskan salmon and "farmed" Canadian salmon. The fresh stuff is a lot better, and more money. I don't know about the lower 48, but even though people can basically get free salmon up here, they still sell in the store for about $10.00 a pound. Always be sure to get the Alaskan salmon, as the farmed stuff can have a bunch chemicals in it.

As far as I can tell I think swampyjunior and Bing are right on with their prices. They just can't make the money they used to be able to.

And no, that isn't my wife cutting up the salmon, however she normally does the slimy part of picking the net while I cut them up. She couldn't get out of work that day though...

Hey that's cool about the wife. Mine has a motto. "You catch it - you clean it, I catch it - you still clean it!" She does help when cut wrap and vacum seal fish, moose and caribou pretty well though.

She likes to use a gillnet or fishwheel for salmon and a fishing pole for halibut. So far she has beat my largest halibut by 20+ pounds.

Anyway, Good fishing and tight lines to all.
