While I was weed wacking, I hit a big rock. The head stopped going around. I took it apart and the flex shaft was broken inside the drive shaft housing. Has anyone ever had this happen?

How did you fix it?

 

I put in a new flex shaft. The worst part about the whole repair was waiting for the new flex shaft to come in.

 

How much does one of those cost?

 

$9.00 plus tax.

 

I wouldn't have thought it would have been that cheap.

I have taken mine out as it suggests and lube, flip it.

 

What kind of lube did you use?

 

Right off hand I don't know the brand name but its the hard grease I use on the grease zerks of the trucks.
I just smeared it all over and stuck it back in.

 

Mine had a little grease towards the bottom of the shaft. (on the old shaft) I called the place where I got the parts and the guy told me to put lith. grease on it. I sprayed grease down in the hole and then all over the flex shaft. I'm concerned that I should have used regular grease. I think I'll check it after I use it once. There is a plastic insert that slides down into the metal shaft. Then the flex shaft slides into the plastic insert.
