Where do you hunt that you use a 300 winmag for deer? I use a 150gr in a 30-30. Occasionally I'll use a 165gr in a 30-06. Of course I use the same .06 round for elk too and do just fine. Hope I am not sounding offline here......Its just I don't know anyone who uses a winmag or 7mm on deer and wondered where you hunt that so much power was necessary.

Most of the time I use my Remingtom 700 BDL in 300 WM topped with a 4.5x14 Leupold. It's stoked with handloads of 150 gr Nosler BT at 3360 fps. That is because I usually hunt an alfalfa field where a shot may be 600 yards. Last year's deer was at 515 yards.
Same setup for Antelope.

For Elk, I switch to a handloaded 180gr Barnes-X @ 2970 fps.

When I hunt deer in timber, I will usually go with my Winchester M70 in 30.06 BOSS/ Burris 3x9 and factory loads of either 150 Nosler BT or 150 Sierras

30-06 mauser action with Weaver scope- 3-9. built for me by my brother.... Love this rifle and have taken whitetail and elk with it. Never had to shoot twice.

.308 lightweight M70 with Leupold 3-9 scope. sweet shooting little rifle and a joy to carry.

I handload .130 hornday spire points for both these rifles and have never lost a whitetail. Most of the time it is hoofs a kickin coming off recoil.

Have a .270 on the same mauser action being built right now. Can not wait to get it and try it out this year!!!

I too know that story with my browning shotgun- 3.5 gold hunter. Have sent it back to browning 3 times and it has jammed on the first shot coming back from them everytime. They say they find nothing wrong. Most expensive single shot shotgun I have ever bought. The only thing is cycles is 3.5 inch shells.

Pretty gun though.... One of those leave it in the cabinet shotguns.
