How Much Do You Pay to hunt?
#23
In NW Minnesota where I am from, the land values have really soared due to hunters. Good hunting land is now more expensive than farm land. Six years ago I bought 160 acres for $200 an acre. Now an 80 acre piece a mile away is listed for $1,200 an acre. It's just like mine, only half the size and three times the price. During deer season it is difficult to hunt anywhere except public land or on land that is owned by friends. I'm lucky enough to have relatives that farm, so it is not a problem for me. A realator recently told me that they are just now beginning to let out hunting leases in the area. I think in another decade or so it will be just like Texas, it'll take a lot of money to hunt. Not a good thing for the future of our sport.

In North Dakota we pay $20 a tag. There is a lot of public land as well as open private land. You can hunt private land as long as it isn't posted and most posted land is easy to get permission to hunt on. We kill a lot of deer within a mile of our house.
