Default First deer

Yesterday at 7:30 AM, it was 26 degrees out, light flurries were falling, somewhere a baby was born, and I got my first deer. Ok, seriously now. It was really cold out yesterday and the wind was blowing, so I was hiding in my coat. Well, while I was doing this, the deer must have walked through the clearing infront of my stand, and when I came out of my coat, I caught him out of the corner of my eye just as he went into the brush. I was POd at myslef for being a wuss, so I watched him walk away from my sight, through the trees and brush toward my brothers stand. About fifteen minutes later though, I saw him come running back spooked, and he stopped about 40 yards from my stand, in the brush again. I wathced him through my scope as he walked up the hill and into the only clearing where I could get a shot at him. So, not letting him get away, I put the crosshairs on his shoulder and pulled the trigger. He jumped up, ran about 20 yards and fell, and that's all I needed to see, I was on the radio yelling " I dropped him, I dropped him!" So I almost skipped the ladder getting out of the stand, forgot my rifle, adn took off into the brush, where I got hung up for about ten minutes. By the time I got free, my neighbors brother was down there looking, and said he didn't stay down, but we had a good enough blood trail to track him with. So we walked about twenty more yards and saw him laying on the powerline dead. I was so excited I couldn't talk, I forgot my rifle, dropped my hat somewhere, and could barely function to gut him. He turned out to be a six point-would-be eight, because he had broken off the right main beam most likely in fighting. So we got him all skinned and stuff and he's hanging in my garage waiting to finf someone whos knows how to cut steaks to help me out. LOL Not a bad sized deer, but not the biggest, but for my first, I was happier than a clam. Aight, sorry for the length, and I'll have a picture on my photo page as soon as I can.

I got him at about... um, 40 yards I think, give or take a few. But yeah, I used a 20 g, shotgun... No, I used my Russian M-44 7.62 mm. I got soft tip rounds made in Russia somewhere at Dunhams for like $10, and let me tell you, they did their job. The shot was beautiful too, not to brag or anything, I got him through the left lung, into the heart, and through the right lung and it deflected down the back. It tore the living crap outta the left side though, I can only get meat outta the hind quarter. But I did recover the bullet and jacket which is pretty cool. I just put some pictures on my page, so they should be on by5:30 or so. Aight then, good to you Rappy and everyone else!

Way to go man. I remember my first deer like it was yesterday(bout 4 years ago). Its a great feeling to look from that scope and see a white belly on the ground. Did you get the buck fever? It seems to be gettin at me here lately. I shot a big doe Friday, bout 60 yrds, she made a big loop and died about 20 yrds behind my tree. After she was down, I got the shakes so bad I bout fell out the tree. I let her lay and bout 45 mins later I heard one blow. It was a HUGE 8 pt. I guess he blew that doe and ran bout 50 yrd and stopped. I found him in my scope, but had a big limb in my shootin lane. I wasnt gonna wound him then let the coyotes get him, so I let him walk. He was the biggest buck I have ever seen, and I had it worse then than with that doe. Now for the worst. I had another big 8 come in on me. He was trailing that doe I shot, he turned to leave but my Primos Can brought him back. Watched him for 10 mins before I could shoot. My legs, arms and everything in between was shakin lol. He got in a clearing and I shot. He ran over in front of another guys tree, and he killed him. Oh well. Anyway, thats the worst case of buck fever I ever had.
