In the 4in. category its like a Glock 22, but with added safety features. It comes in three cal. 9mm, 40. and 357sig. I like the short trigger pull and short recoil.

I like them better than Glocks. They fit my hand very well and have a trigger that looks and feels like a trigger. That means I can point it naturally and shoot it faster and smoother. The metal magazines drop out when the release is pushed everytime, unlike Glocks. Glock has an advantage in the lower bore in relation to the hand. So there is a slightly less muzzle flip with the Glock. The Glock also has gobs of aftermarket accessories available. I do think the Glock is slightly more accurate but if your purpose is to shoot as tiny of groups as you can, there are better choices than Glock or XD. I like SIGs myself.

I have a G17 and it's a decent gun. If I was to go out today to buy a Glock or XD, I would chose the XD.

I almost got the XD a while back. Ended up getting the Walther P99 in .40 instead. Very comparable, but the P99 fit me better and held tighter groups.

I have had an XD-40 4" for about a year now. I use it for a concealed carry, and general carry gun. I carry it usually when I ride, camp, fish, and most of the time when I bow hunt. Thankfully, the only time I have had to use it was when a big(close to 4 feet) copperhead got too close for comfort.

As of right now, I wouldnt trade it for anything. It has a better feel than any gun I have ever held, and I can murder coke cans at twenty steps. The only thing you have to watch out for is what shells you use in it. I dont know if all are the same, but mine will sometimes not feed an extremely flat nose bullet. I prefer Mag-tec or Remington FMJ's for general shooting, and carry Hornady 180 Gn. TAP for defensive ammo. If I didnt use the TAP, I would use PowerBalls, as both have a nice round nose that ensures good feeding. This is the only thing that I have found that could be improved.

It is a heavier gun than a Glock, as the internal parts larger and heavier built. When I first got mine, after market parts where scarce, but are now reasonably availabe. I have an XD GEAR kydex paddle holster, and an in-the-pants style concealed carry holster, and I am pleased with both. The next thing I think I will get for it is a set of night sights. From what I understand, Sig sights fit the XD's, so they will not be hard to find.

Something else, If you mainly need a concealed carry gun, try the 3" version. My buddy has one of the XD 40 Sub-compact. It is pretty much just like mine minus an Inch in barrel length. It also shoots very well. The coolest feature it has is its mags. You get a 9 round and a full 12 round mag with a grip extension that makes it hold just like a full size XD. With the extension, you can use any aftermarket XD 40 magazine.
