Hornady Leverevolution 30-30 ammunition.
Well i finally got out to the range to sight the 30-30 in with the new scope and the Hornady ammo and the results were very good as far as accuracy is concerned. It took me about six or seven shots to get my bullets to go where i wanted them but after getting dialed in for 100 yds i got two very good groups. My first shot was almost dead center in the bullseye(i know but it really was)and the next two were at about 10:00 and only 3/4" away and they were touching so that was a very good group. My second three shot group was almost as good with the first shot just on the edge of the center bullseye at about 3:00 and the next two about 1" away at 9:00 for a total group size of 1".My accuracy will mean nothing if the bullet does not expand properly and perform as it should on a Deer but time will tell on that.I also tried some factory Hornady ammo in my Freedom Arms 454 and i was not impressed with that so i will work up some hand loads for the 454.

Just to throw my hat in the ring...........
I read with some interest on these new boolyets recently. But the long and short of it to me is,,,,,,,,,if I'm gonna shoot far enough away that the trajectory of a thuddy-thuddy comes into play, I'm takin' my 260 or 270 to that ball game. Little lightweight lever carbines are hunnerd to hunnerd fiddy yard guns, just accept it and stay there and the world remains in harmony. Fight it and it fights you.
Just my opinion, of course.

ShadyRascal i agree with you about the 30-30 being a hundred and fifty yard gun at best but....i still like to have the flattest shooting bullet to help with accuracy regardless of the caliber.I pass many questionable shots especially at a distance too far for the caliber so i get your point.Good advice.

hey guys heres what has happened to my Savage 170 shooting this Ammo, it has swollen the end of my barrell and broken my front sight from being swollen, it also would not eject due to a larger rear of the tail of the casing, Do not shoot this stuff in an old gun, it will destroy the gun. RP

The only way a barrel swells up is if there's an obstruction... mud, snow, or whatever... and you fire the gun. The extreme pressure generated by that is what makes the brass stick in the chamber too. I've seen plugged barrels peel like bananas and blow up the whole gun too. Plugged barrel = pipe bomb. You got lucky RP.

I read recently where Hornady had recalled some of this ammo due to under powered charge in case, which would cause a jammed bullet, which is why I missed that buck at 45 yards. I mean i was point blank on the buck and he even gave me time to remove my gloves and glasses, I laid down on him right behind the shoulder and booooom!!!!! no hit on the deer ! what the hell I said ? He then lifted his left rear leg and trotted off, All the time i was trying to cycle another Shell and it was jammed once again, POED!!! i went back to camp Setup up a target blaming myself for the miss thinking it was My Scope (Weaver K3 ) Shot about 6 rounds of the old winchester flatnose 170 grain got decent grouping and cycle fine, needless to say thats when I noticed the loose from sight and then the swollen barrell, I have since cut off 3 inches of the barrell and recrowned it so in a couple of weeks ill go shoot a round thru it and see what happens, Hornady Ammo no thanks, The old stuff that the gun was designed for is fine with me besides i cant shoot 300 yards freehand anyway so whats the use, I did however finish my Hunting with my old trusty Mossberg Slugster.
