Fly Rod Racks for a Polaris Sportsman 800 '08
#1
Hello there
I'm a paralyzed hunter/angler and I recently bought the above mentioned quad to be used as my legs for this coming summer and autumn to do some hunting and fishing from it.
I need a good method to mount my rods to the bike when driving from one pool to another. I have seen the www.allriteproducts.com rod racks and they are designed for spinner rods but not for fly rods.
I'm open to all suggestions on this great forum.
Best regards from the north coast of Iceland-a great country for some serious ATV riding.

Hello wartdog and thank you for your reply.
I have found some rod racks for bait casting rods like this product: http://www.allriteproducts.com/products/product/16
I'm unsure if this will work for my fly rods but I'll think I'll give it a try. It is designed for spin/bait rods though.
Let me know what you'll come up with wartdog.

Scotty makes one. They have several nounting systems. There should be a mount plate that will attach to a round rail. Check Cabelas, Bass Pro or the Scotty website. They also have several other rod holders that would work for your purpose.

I made some pole holders that are similar to those for my old boat from a piece of PVC pipe. I cut a slot down the side and bolted it to a piece of aluminum. The ones I made were for bait casting poles and very similar to the link you posted.
I don't see why you couldn't make the PVC pipe longer say 18-20inches (36-40cm) long and use some velcro to hold the pole in the tubing so the fly rod won't fall through the slot.
I made mine from some scrap I had and if you had to buy it you probably would need to buy such a large piece that it may be better to buy a pre-made version. There has definitely got to be something out there though. Check the boating/marine stores for ones that can be mounted to a boat and see if they can be modified to mount to the rack of an ATV.
