Default hunting in Dallas, TX area?

Looking at a relocation with work to Dallas TX. Any hunting around there? Any public land that can be hunted.

I bow hunt for deer and turkeys, hunt ducks and geese, and shoot doves when I get a chance. Will try about anything.

Hear there is a lot of hog hunting in TX, but do not know if there is anything around Dallas or not.

I know there are a lot of pay to hunt ranches in south TX, but can't afford that, and not really into the guided, fenced in ranch hunting thing.

Any suggestions from any one around there or with good knowledge is much appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Ken

Sure have gotten a lot of views for no responses...

Surely someone on here that hunts has lived there, or have family there, etc. Just looking for some general info.

thanks,

Ken

Not sure where you're moving from, so there may be some surprises for you.

You'll have to make a drive out of the Dallas area to find any good hunting areas. Then you might need to get a hunting lease for the property.

Now if you're into fishing, you've got all kinds of places close by.

Default hunting in Dallas, TX area?

A friend of mine moved from Missouri/Iowa area to Dallas quite a few years ago. He hunted a lot. Every season and every type of game. Birds, small game, deer waterfowl you name it. He'd heard of all the good hunting Texas had to offer and he was quite excited about going. He was pretty disappointed when he finally got there though. He told me that in Texas hunting is a rich man's game. Not an abundance of public land and it was next to impossible to obtain permission to hunt private land since it was all leased. He saved up for a couple of years and took a guided deer hunting trip to one of the ranches down there and while he got a decent deer he said it really wasn't worth the money. He wouldn't tell me exactly how much he paid but I got the impression it was extremely pricey.

Do a little research and you can find reasonable prices on leases that will let you hunt whatever game the have and within a couple of hour drive. As for public land i used to hunt quail in the grasslands near Decauter and Bonham
