Bow String Loops?
#31
Thanks for the added responses! The draw is fairly short for me so I think the added loop is fine as I had to lean into it. I will shoot it through paper soon and see what the deal is. Do you have to shoot through the paper level or can you shoot down at it like you would a regular target sitting on the ground???

shoot through it straight, if you cant get a perfect bullet hole dont worry many cant it possibly could be your grip on the bow (hand torque). im gonna post a few links for you to read up on that will help you alot.

OK thanks I will look into the link you gave. I did shoot it through paper tonight and hole was to the left and the flights were right so I adjusted the WB and now it is all center. Didnt need much moving though mabey 1/8" or so. Just going to try and keep sighting in the sights now and see how that goes. Seem to get about a 3-4" group at 20 yards. I defently dont plan on shooting past 25-30yrds. More practice I guess.

thats a good group at 20 yards, pretty soon you wont want to shoot groups anymore, I shoot hunters paper league in the winter (thats where you and your partner shoot 3 arrows per animal target so that 6 arrows in the heart usually 9 arrow rounds ) we both carry 2 doz arrows and every week i have to refletch and fix uni bushings in 6 or more arrows, just practicing i usually dont shoot groups anymore....I use to enjoy building arrows but after last winter i got kind of sick of it, plus i work seasonal (part time in a archery shop) and do arrows lots of them plus do alot at home arrows and working on bows for other people at home.

thanks, the groups are not too bad, just wasnt sure what is "acceptable" at a given yardage. After I get my 30yd pin ajusted I will try practice more up in the stand. hoytultratec, it sounds like you know what you are doing with bows, workin on them that much helps a bunch I would think.

ive been doing my own stuff for a few years, I bought a bow press, arrow saw, bowvise a few years back and made a drawboard ( its a valuable tool when timing cams) along with all the other tools you need to work on them, trips to the shop were getting to often while my son was growing up he constantly needed dl adjustments ect, and now that he has got so good we were always trying different things, he shoots so much he always needed new strings so i thought i would just buy a bow press and learn it myself.
Im heavily involved in the youth archery league so thats where i ended up getting some hours at the shop in the fall and some in the winter during youth league, this year im just gonna do my own thing in my shop at home I get enough work fro all the buddies and there buddies even though i dont charge nearly enough.
my 13 year old knows how to tie loops and tie in peeps i have basically taught him how to set up a bow from scratch. its not that tough to learn it and really i dont care for most shops they really dont put in the time to get your stuff right from the start...ive had a few bad experiences.

Sounds good! A guy like you or I, that has many moons behind them with a bow in their hands is able to work on their own stuff. A new guy would probably be better off taking it to the shop a few times until he gets more acquainted with bows. Plus, you meet new people that are into the sport, and gain some valuable knowledge.

Also, is it going to throw off the POI when I switch to fixed blade broadheads that are the same weight as the field tips??
What is your opinion on the Bear Jennings bows, like I have? Are they comparable to a Hoyt or similar?
