does any body do any coyote hunting this year after deer hunting finished my buddy purchased some hunting dog's and tracking equiptmeant and a bunch of the normal hunting crew started running coyote's we got 18 it was the most fun i have had in a long time the weather was a bit cooler than it is for deer hunting and about 4 more feet of snow than we usally hunt in but following those dog's around on our snowmobile's and snow shoeing after them sure was alot of fun i can't wait until next winter so we can do it all over again.
any varmint reply's would be interesting to me.

My buddy and I just bought new rifles here a few months back for varmint hunting. Went out for coyotes a few times and found about 13 in one day, but the problem was they were too close to houses. I try to respect the landowners, and won't shoot if the dogs are near their houses or yards. They are all farmers, and appreciate people who treat them and their place with respect. Luckily enough, one of them gave my buddy and I permission to hunt his land next year, just because we didn't shoot a pair of coyotes that were near his place.
I finally found the rifle I wanted-a Remington 700 VSSF-a .223 with fluted heavyweight stainless target barrel with kevlar/composite stock. I put a Leupold 6.5x20x50 long range target scope with tactile *****, mil. dot reticle and adjustable side focus for clear viewing, as well as a harris bi-pod. The rifle is awesome, shoots like a dream and is VERY accurate. Well, accurate as long as I breath right! heh heh heh.
To date, have only shot a ground hog, a magpie and a few prarie dog things-ground squirrels, whatever you call them. Will be heading out for coyotes again in the next month or so probably and try to find some good ground squirrel area's as well. Varmint hunting is a lot of fun, and gives you a chance to keep up with shooting during the off season of deer and elk. We don't use dogs, so it's a lot of exercise as well, walking all over the country and back.
Anyway, nice to see a new hunting topic, and best of luck with the critters!

is a frog's a$$ watertight?? down here in texas the yodel dogs have pups about now and i plan to use pup distress calls and my remington 700 vs .220 swift to collect the $10 bounty. if i join the texas sportsmans association i get another $15. 25$--hell that's a box of ammo. matter of fact i have four sets of ears in the freezer right now. i just like killin' the little furry f**k*rs.
here's a recipe for coyote:
take a large kettle (pot), fill it 3/4 full of water, bring water to boil, place dressed coyote in kettle, place brick on top of coyote, boil for 3 hours, remove coyote and discard, eat brick.

Hey Top Cat -top dog?, oh well, sorry-had a few too many of the... or maybe in the Busch tonight. Well, let me re-phrase that, you can never have too many, just enough to get silly! Anyway, like that recipe for the flavored brick, I'll have to try that!
BTW-Any new possibilities for new firearms? I've decided I need something new myself. I've got my newest (the VSSF .223) dialed in where I want it, now need a new mission to dial something else in. Seems maybe I need a big bore now, what do ya think??? Oh, bad news though-went out looking for deer sheds today, ended up being chased and nearly bitten by a few rattlesnakes-3 of them to be exact. Anyway, after falling over the edge of a small cliff, I landed on my right hip, which consequently holstered my S&W .357 mag. Ended up breaking the right side rear sight off. Luckily no other damage, just need to get that replaced. Any thoughts on a night site? Just kind of thinking that since I need to replace the rear sight now anyway, might be a good time for something new.
Well, best of luck, take care TEXAS-CAT,
Mike

HEY COWBOY, WHAT'S UP MAN. better watch those rattlers. the best part about them is that they give you a little warning. on easter weekend, dakotart, bushwhacker (polaris nut), and myself killed 8 cottonmouths on dakotart's place in edna, texas. those sob's blow musk that smells like a skunk when they're pi$$ed. i killed six with a .44 magnum using 240 gr. lead swc. i was a little overgunned but wtf it did the deed. if you are looking for a big bore check out the new .480 ruger it is supposed to have more energy than the .44 mag but a lot less recoil than the 454 casull. i've always wanted a lone eagle in .444 marlin or a thompson center encore in 45-70.
best of luck to ya,
ryan

A friend of mine had a thompson in 45-70, he said it kicked like a mule shooting the low velocity factory loads. I can't imagine how hard it would kick with some juiced up reloads!
What type of a gun is that ruger .480? I have never heard of it before. Is it a revolver? If so, how many shots does it hold?
