Just bought a Sako Finnlight (Stainless Synthetic) in 30-06 for hunting Dall sheep, moose and caribou. (and bears, if they ask for it). Handles like a dream, light weight, and built for tough Yukon conditions. Nice rifle!
I'm working on 165 grain Nosler Partition handloads, and will work up something bigger for the bears.
Going moose hunting Friday, so hopefully I'll get to try it out on the real thing soon!

My new .270 WSM is new, never been shot I am beginning to wonder if I should have gotten the .300 WSM. I am going black bear hunting next year, and wondering if the .270 WSM will do the job. It shoots over 3,200 fps with over 3,000 lbs of energy. Surely that will do the job, right?

Hey Mike Chero,
Can you give me some advice on an underwood 30 carbine m-1?
The magazine has a little fore to aft play, which causes the rounds to jam during rapid firing. This is solved by holding the clip up into the gun. I wonder if it's the clip, or the magazine insert.Duct tape would solve it, but that would be like painting a BMW with house paint.
Thanks
John

John,
Is your carbine a U.S.G.I., or an aftermarket? Secondly, does it happen with just one magazine or all magazines. Third, what type of magazines do you use? 30, 15, 10 or 5. If it's a milspec carbine, you can get complete trigger assemblies for them. That might solve your loose magazine problem. The 15 rounders work best in mine. There are so many surplus carbines out there that you can still up grade parts from M-1 to M-2. Just make darn sure that none of the M-2 have anything to do with the fire control (Full Auto) aspect of the M-2. Bolts, magazine releases, operating rods and stocks are all safe items to buy.
The problem is most likely with the magazine. Remember, these are war guns and are designed to have a lot of slop in them. Try bending the feed lips of one magazine outward slightly at the front. That may or may not do the trick. Kind of hard to diagnose the problem without seeing the gun, but there are a few tips for you. Hope it works out.

jafo216 I can tell we don't live very far apart. We carry the same armaments.LOL Man California sure is messed up. Their stupid Gov. has passed a bill that will allow gun makers to be sued whenever a crime is commited by someone with a gun. STUPID,STUPID,STUPID. Just like that state to try and punish the gunmaker instead of who actually committed the crime. They would rather feed a killer than hang him like they should so they decided to sue the gun maker for money to house the killer. That's another strike by the anti-gun ****'s against those of us with guns. This will bite into the gun market in one form or another. That state must be the headquarters for all of the freak groups in the US.

zookyridr,
Let them sue all they want. There is legal precedence for this. Out here on the east coast there were several cities that tried to do the same thing. They didn't get a thing for their troubles. I imagine it will be the same out there, but you never can tell in the land of the "Twinkie defense". Basically the courts ruled that a manufacturer can't be held responsable if a legally made, sold and government regulated product is misused. Even if they do win (in the odd chance they could) the gun manufacturers have a way of getting their money back. I assume you have police in that state, and these police carry guns do they not? These guns that the police carry, occasionally wear out and need replacement parts. Simple economics, just charge them (the agencies) an arm amd a leg for the parts they order. How about $5,000 for an extractor or $10,000 for a barrel? What you say your agency needs a new gun? Sorry, but you don't have enough money in the state to buy one. If all the manufacturers did this, it would work. However you always have some manufacturer who will go to great lengths to please the government (Smith & Wesson & Klinton comes to mind) that won't do this.
