I would like to make a food plot for deer. I have a 3 acre spot to work. I own a 98 Sportsman 500. I would like to find something to work it with. Is there something out there that is not to expensive to put behind my sportsman? I have seen a few things but they are way to expensive.
Thanks

Look for a pull disc at preowned farm equipment dealer or farm auctions. I got one last year for $125 and have seen lots of others last fall & this spring. There alot heaver than most of the atv acc's.that are new.

I have heard conflicting reports on discing with an ATV. Would a Sportsman 500 or Grizzly be able to disc solid, dry red clay?

I can't speak for the grizzly but my '99 SP 500 pulls like crazy!!!!!!!!!!! I have the grey heavy clay in these parts, it takes weight to help the disc dig, and the right angle on the sets. My disc has a front section that angles in and a rear section that angles out (both adjustable). If your going to make food plots, the biggest thing to remember is to have the soil tested, add the proper results and till up well!

I am seriously considering a new Sportsman 500. I have about 8 acres of level land covered with briar. I want to get rid of the briar if nothing else. Thanks for the speedy reply.

All good info, would like to add, don't overlook the Traxter, I've had one for six months, push cars with it, went to the AG kit wheels, 14" type, mainly to keep from throwing mud up in the air, with the AG setup, the loose dirt is only about six inch off the ground 20 ft behind it. Anyway, it does better than you would beleive.

If you see one at the dealers, give it a look, if your old and over the hill as I, you will love the step through and large fuel tank plus lots more.

Smile
