road work with scraper blade
#1
Has anyone tried grading their roads or driveways with a scraper blade like the polaris model. I would like some information on how good they really work. I have a gravel driveway about 8oo feet long and we get a few pot holes after a rainstorm, so I thought about buying a machine with a grader blade. What do you guys think, will a 650 machine do the trick or do I buy a tractor. I really have no room for a tractor, as I prefer to buy a atv for pleasure also. Any truthfull info would be appreciated.

I have a similar driveway situation to yours. I have a Honda Foreman which I plow snow with, however, I am still searching for a gravel solution. I have tried my front blade and have found it to perform poorly on gravel. These plows were not made for this purpose. I usually end up renting a tractor with a landscape rake which works perfectly. There are several products which can be used on an atv such as a york rake, box scraper, flat drag and rear blade. Some of these will require a conversion kit for a three point hitch system. I have not personally purchased anything yet because I don't want to be stuck with a $300-$400 piece of equipment that doesn't work. The only item I have found that I can try is the york rake from a local equipment rental company. I intend to try this after the next good rain when the gravel is softer. Good Luck. Greg

All of your utility quads should have a hitch on them.right?
Well these machines PULL alot better then they PUSH, so I would biuld me a "box blade" and make it so you can hang some tractor weights on it for some good dragging. A couple of hundred pounds mounted on the back of the box blade should do the trick for your gravel roads.

go to the scrap yard buy a good size I beam 5 to 6 feet long attach a chain toeach side of it and drag it once youve done a couple of passes angle it a bit you,ll be supprised how much gravel you,ll lousen up the more you use it the better you,ll get at it have fun i go out and borrow my sisters drive way which is about 600 ft long and add weight to it if you want it to dig in but not to much
