Default will barrel over heat???????

I heard that with my Ruger Mini 14 that if you shoot it more than 3-5 times fast with out letting it cool down that the barrel will overheat and loose accuracy for good!!!!!! Is this true.......? I always thought you could shoot 30 rounds fairly fast withoout any problems.....why else would they make a 30, 40, 90 round magazines for them? and i am using Wolf ammunition (HP's)..........well if anyone has an answer for this i would like that.................

You will get your best accuracy with a cool barrel. Groups might open up a bit when barrel gets hot, but unless you get it cherry red, I would doubt that it will hurt your accuracy for good. Once the barrel cools down again, and it is clean, accuracy should return. Biggest cause of accuracy problems is ammo, and damage to the crown (muzzle) of the barrel. If you are rapping off 30 rounds quickly, the barrel will get hot, and accuracy will suffer a bit, but if you are shooting that quickly, you don't need MOA accuracy. Besides, guns like the Mini-14 are great, but they aren't tack drivers anyway. Just shoot it and enjoy.

Yes, it could damage your barrel. Probably not from 3 to 5 rounds, but if you shoot 20 to 30 in a row they say it can warp the barrel. If you're going to shoot a lot of rounds I recomend getting a heavy barrel rifle or one with a varmint barrel. I had a .223 in a colt AR15 and had no problem with heating up, but now I shoot a browning stainless stalker, and if I shoot 10 to 15 rounds the barrel gets pretty hot, so I leave it sit with the bolt out for a few minutes to cool it down.
