Hi all... I just joined and figured I'd be an active community member by dropping an introduction. I'm a C5/C6 quad that broke my neck 13 years ago in a snowmobile accident, at the age of 19. I rode bikes and sleds for many years before the accident but have since been strictly an enthusiast/spectator.
As we know once these toys are in your blood the draw never goes away, and I finally got out on the trails again last fall in a friends '09 RZR.. Needless to say, that just lit the fire to get something of my own to adapt w/ hand controls! Since RZRs are out of my price range, and old Honda Odysseys are either complete basket cases or the owner wants $1800 for his "collectors item", with their solid rear ends that will bounce me right out of the thing faster that I can imagine, I've been brainstorming a scratch built chassis using an old lt230E which I think will be a great donor quad... Clutch-less shift, reverse, elec. start, full suspension... everything I need to carry over!
I just picked up a non-running one Monday for low money, which is what led me here. It's complete, in decent shape, and hopefully with some TLC will be running soon. Then when time and money allows we can start the custom build.
Just putting this out there in case anyone has already done something like this as I am open any suggestions, ideas, tips, on what they did! I know making a box chassis won't be difficult, it's the things getting the suspension mounting points right, running my own custom linkage, etc. that will be most challenging.
