Riding gear advice - goggles
#1
I'm looking for advice on riding gear that is out there. I am looking to get some new goggles and riding boots. My current pair of goggles are some cheap $10 things that are so scratched up after 4 good rides that they are almost unuseable. I'd like to get some goggles that are somewhat scratch resistant. Any suggestions?

I like Scott, and I only buy roll offs anymore. Alternately, tear offs actually cover a larger part of the lens and do a better job at preventing scratches as well. The nicer goggles have replaceable lenses anyway as they all inevitably get scratched. You may not need roll or tear offs, but the clear vision offered after a little bit of ride time is wonderful.

one of my friends have the roll off goggles but he says a lot of dust and/or water gets behind the strip that it covers. I think I'd like the tear offs better but do Scott goggles offer a better scratch resistance or are all goggles' lenses about the same? I wouldn't care to spend the extra money if I knew a brand offered scratch resistance lenses.

I have had great luck with Sott, Spy, and Thor brands for scratch resistance. Again, the lenses are replaceable on most of the more expensive ones. When your lens inevitably becomes unserviceable you won't need to replace the whole goggle. They are a lot more comfy than the cheap ones, and the foam may be replaceable as well. Roll offs are more likely to get contaminated in the rain or if a lot of mud is getting thrown up. They are a lot less likely to litter the trail though, and you get a lot more ride time with clear vision
I am pretty much exclusively use the Scott's with roll offs, and then put a few tear offs on top of those if conditions look to be real dusty or wet.

Welcome to the forums.
As far as boots go, I've been sold on Alpinestars for years.
Try checking out the closeout sections at some of the online vendors for extra savings on both the goggles and boots.
