Starting issues!
#1
I bought a used 2001 artic cat 250. When pushing elec start it clicks from solenoid and relay. I checked power at solenoid. Only one post has power (battery side) the other post (to starter) is not lighting up the test light. I checked wiring I had a couple wires melt…. Mostly black ones. I thought I fixed them all. So moving forward a bit… when I got this thing I noticed the headlights were never plugged in. So i bought a light bar and someone wired it in for me…. And im pretty confident they knew what they were doing…. About a week later when the wires melted it burned up light bar. So I took light bar off and while checking wiring I plugged in the headlights…. They came on. ( let me add I checked the 3 10 amp fuses and they were good. Guys…. I know I’m all over the place but just bear with me…. This will all come together in a min…
so upon plugging headlights in. I’m still trying to figure out why my starter is not coming on. I change the battery thinking maybe it’s my battery. The new battery is def good. I’m still getting clicking noises while attempting to crank. I took the starter wire and put it directly to battery at first it did nothing but I banged on it a couple times and then it started spinning. But I realize my headlights are no longer working and I have a blown fuse. I’m wondering if previous owner left them unplugged for this reason. But I’m back to square one with just clicking and only power on one solenoid post. So I unplugged headlights for time being and changed fuse. Can anybody help me out here.
oh and I did manage to use pull start once and it crunk up perfectly but now that won’t even crank it. I don’t know how many grounds there are and what to check with them? They are connected to the frame but that’s all I really know. But one ground at the front bumper did come unhooked so upon looking at this I learned the other end of the ground is not connected to anything and I have no idea where it was connected originally.
if you were able to read thru all that and are still with me could you give me any advice?
I tried checking wired from ignition switch but everything is so tight in there and taking off the plastics so far has me losing confidence as my atv is starting to look like a tweaker project and yes I’m a girl but I do know a thing or two and I’m always looking at you tube vids and trying to fix myself bc I can’t afford to pay anyone to fix it.
