If they are a no pre load shock, then why is there a threaded pre load? I'm getting confused.

These shocks have three very different springs seperated by plastic dividers to keep them lined up, with the threaded section at the top. The adjustment threads are to compress ... or decompress ...(pre-load) the tension
on the small spring.
The Elka manual says it this way .............
"Most Elka racing shock absorbers are equipped with a combination of double or triple springs seperated by hard special plastic deviders. These dividers are used for transferring spring pressure sooner or later from one sping to another. By adjusting Up the preload ring at the top of the first spring ( the lightest) the weight and pressure will be transferd later on the mid and main spring giving a lower riding height. On the opposite, if you screw Down the preloand ring you will reduce the travel of the primary sping, resulting in quicker transfer to the secondary spring and the main spring, and a will have a higher riding height."
My summary .... the shocks come with three springs that have been selected to match the info I gave them ....
( quad, my weight, riding style ) Elka says it this way, " At delivery, the spring adjustment of you shock absobers is pre-set for you driving style. Nonetheless, you may wish to personalize this setting for different types of terrain."
( they send the tools for changing them also)
Hope this helps

V-Forcer is right on the money, the reason I went with Elka is they have done more V-Forces by far than any other companie I called axis they had done 2 and none as wide as mine at 51". Works did 1 and tcs had not done any for me elka was by far the best choice. When I go my Elkas I thought they were a little soft up front since I am so wide it puts more leverage on the shock I sent them back and I had them back in 4 days with new springs and settings I have not taken them off the lightest settings they are perfect they corner flat a a board on hard turns soak up whoops like they were'nt even there and I can land big air without worrying I might bottom out. The Elka Elites are by far the best money I have ever spent on a quad before.
