2WD and 4WD lights flashing on P650
#1
I was towing my mower this afternoon and my 2WD and 4WD lights started flashing back an forth. I still have power, and can still go into and come out of 4WD. I have been having a problem with power and speed, only 57 tops instead of the 66-70 I used to get. I have 1750 miles and about 240 hours on the original belt. Could this be a belt failure of some sort?

When I tripped my belt sensor the whole dash flashed on and off. Just the 2wd & 4wd lights flashing would indicate a actuator failure according to the manual. Flashes of 1 sec. each between the lights would indicate a failure of the engine brake actuator. Does that seem to be operating correctly?

The 4x4 actuator seems to work fine, I had to put it in 4WD to get out of where I was mowing, and it worked. I had a problem once with the motor for the KEBC inside the belt housing. Dealer replaced the motor and it was fine. I guess I will bring it to the dealer and let them fix it. The KEBC motor has been making real strange noises latley so it probably sh*t the bed. I wil let everyone know how I make out.

I just had this problem over the weekend. The problem is caused by the failure of the enging braking motor or actuater arem moving to the correct position. My P-650 had the engine braking partially engaged and when in gear and at idle the bike would try to move forward and kill then enging if the brake was held on. I pulled the engine brake actuator motor off and it looked dirty inside. I cleaned it up with contact cleaner, lightly cleaned the armature with emry cloth and re-lubed the end bushing. After putting it back together the motor turned and everything worked well. When the motor was dead, there was no motor noise when the bike was shut off as normally occurs. I suppose a blown fuse would give the same flashing light symptoms too. By quad was submerged over the top of the actuator motor about a month ago and this could have caused the problem. I doubt it though because the housing was o-ring seald fairly well.

Just FYI, it was the KEBC accuator motor. Dealer replaced it, warrenty, didn't cost me a cent. Maybe the motors don't go bad they just get stuck or something, anyway, i have a brand new one, the third in this machine. I also had a new belt put on, no shims, it squeels at idle in gear but seems much better than it was with the old belt.
