reverse light and override

Today I adjusted my shift linkage. After completing the task, I took it for a test ride. Now the reverse light does not always come on. Also, in reverse I have full power(as if I'm holding the override button) all the time. Are these two related? Did I shorten the shift linkage too much? Thanks, kodiak1
