Has anyone clear coated there plastic? Im in the process of doing it. It's not the same smooth like when it was new. How did the manufactures get it so smooth? It looks very nice, but i dont think it's to durable, it peeled when it was rubbed on some gravel. Im going to keep trying.

You are simply wasting your time and money trying to clear coat the plastics. The plastics are much to plyable and the clear coat will crack, peel, lift and look like crap in short order especially if it already has scratches in it.

You must use a flex agent in the clear coat but it still will not hold up, it's designed to be used on automotive base colors where flexing is kept to a minimum, it also is designed to adhere to the base color (fresh paint).

It may look great at first but once you have brushed up against tree branches and rocks say goodbye to the high gloss shine. It may work better if the machine is used only in the sand as a showpiece.

 

How about this. Ride the crap out of it and get it all scratched up, its a dayumn off road vehicle! Don't worry about what it looks like, keep it running well, and ride!

 

Well if anyone eles is still interested i should have some pics by 9:00 pm est. Maybe it would be good for dune riders? I clear coated a piece that doesnt flex much.

 

cueball at auto places like auto zone you can buy plasctic clear coat in spray cans. its made specially for plastic so that it flexes and bends withthe plastic. toget it smooth and glossy though you got sand the heck out of it with some fine grit sandpaper till it is really smooth than appl clearcoat.

Also if anyone didn't know krylon just came out with a new line of spray paint just for plastic. thay say it doesn't require any thing but the spray can to apply.

 

Im using the krylon crystal clear acrylic coating. Ill have to check out advanced auto parts, i can also get some cool stickers too. Thanks.
