venom is correct,
although they hit dealers as early as may of 2001, I know because thats when I picked up mine, (first one in) they were still considered '02 models. these are identical to the '03 models in almost every aspect except for the airbox which is shaped slightly different, and a noticable clutch belt warning light on the display panel.
as far as your other question they are without a doubt great machines, because in many peoples opinion, including atv magazines, they are the closest thing to truly combining the fun and speed of a sport with the usefullness and go anywhere traction of a utility or 4 X 4 atv.
Most of the other utilities have stayed within their comfort zone of the Utility market by keeping IRS or Independent rear suspension, and for some people who's sole joy in life is very very rough terrain, large rocks, logs or deep mud etc this is a benefit.
However it is important to rembemer these only add a few inches of ground clearance or wheel travel and even large off road trucks get stuck so no amount of ground clearance make you unstuckable.
So the keys to enjoying yourself and going where you want to go are knowing your machines limits, and more importantly knowing your limits as a rider, Have fun and good luck.
