Default Low coolant level on new 2003 P650

My coolant level is about an inch low. Has been since I bought it. Should I get some Kawasaki coolant, or just top it off with distilled / deionized water?
Hot or Cold, what is the true level to read. It is low durring both.

If your ride in hot weather often, I'd suggest filling the radiator (not the overflow bottle) with 2 ozs. of Purple Ice radiator additive to keep your engine running cooler. Since using Purple Ice, my radiator fan hardly ever comes on (even in hot Texas weather). I've also heard other additive such as wetter water also work well. Good luck.
