Default Took the 700 Prairie to the ATV pulls and guess what happened!!!!

I have never tried this before but I have wanted to see what the Prairie would do so,,,,, I found out about the pulls Friday afternoon and the pulls were Saturday morning!! I got off work Friday and worked till 1:00 in the morning getting the Prairie ready. I built brackets and stuck small tractor weights on the front and rear. Around here the little towns have a celabration once a year and have several events such as pulls, this one was about an hour away from me. I got there, unloaded and soon found out that I was like a stray dog that wondered into town! Everyone else that was there was local people but most were very nice,, some just stared. The guys with the sled came over right away and talked to me, they thought I was a pro puller with the way I was set up! LOL!! Every other quad there was bone stock, no pipes or nothing!!! I was like a wolf in a pack of sheep,, or so I thought,,, surrounded by a bunch of 700 Polaris's, 1 Yamaha 660 Grizz(which had a girl rider) and a whole slew of Hondas,, everything from a Rincon to a 185 three wheeler! NO KAWASAKI's,,, I was all on my own!!
I rolled up on the scale to get weighed in, WOW,, I got a bit carried away,, 1300 LBS! They had me drop down to 1100 LBS and I entered 2 class's,, the 2 wheel heavy and the 4x4 heavy Outlaw class!
Here's where the learning started, I was 3rd to pull in the 2 wheel class, I had the EPI weights in the clutch with the red and black spring,, so the RPMs would come up before I took off. Thinking I was doing it right I hooked up, got the chain tight and brought the RPMs up till the clutch started to grab and then I went full throttle!!! Away I went,,, and stopped at around 83 ft! I didn't even place in the top 8!!!
I went back to the trailer and made some adjustments and did some thinking!!! I had emailed Shotgun late Friday night for advice and he replied early Satuday before I left so I sat there and thought about what he had said! hhhmmmmmmm!!!
Ok, time for the 4x4 class,, I was 10th to pull, I sat and watched the 700 Polaris's pulling the sled to the 100 FT line and a couple went beyond,, when my turn came up the pull to beat was 105 FT,,, ok,, I hook up, get the chain tight, slip it in neutral, rev it a a bit to make sure it's ready,, I put it in low,,,, I slam it from idle to wide open,,,, HOLY CRAP,,, hold on boys were going for a ride! When I stopped I had gone 117 FT,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, there were only 3 other pullers after mine and no one came close! YEE HAA!!! I win!
The guys with the sled after the pulls were over set it up for me just like they had it for the 2wheel class and let me take for another try! I hammered it from an idle just like in the 4x4 class and would ya believe I pulled that thing past the 100 ft mark again! The guys who own the sled took my number and are gonna call me when they have another pull! LOL!!! I can't wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!

THANKS SHOTGUN for the advice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Great Job,

From what I've seen those P700's are going to be hard to beat.

Now you got another sport to keep you busy! lol

Thanks for the good words.

Way to go Prairiewrench !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What did you do about the hitch hook up ??? What kind of tires are you running ?

did I understand correctly that the first pull was in high range, and the rest were low range ??

I would love to know if this kind of pulling is going on here in Ohio ???? Anyone ??

Prairiewrench,

Congrats on the win!

Sounds like you had some fun. I wouldn't mind given that a try but haven't really seen any around may area.

For being the only Kawasaki it sure says something about them Prairie's!

Let us know what you did and used for tire selection.

Thanks

It was a blast and was a shinning moment for the Prairie! I ran in low every pull as Shotgun instructed me to do but my first pull I brought the RPMs up while hold the brake and when I felt the clutch start to grab I floored it then. The engine never really reved up through the whole pull. The next pull when I showed um what I had I went from idle to wide open, the engine wound up and ripped the whole way!

As far as the tires, I ran my Maxxis All Traks on OMF beadlock rims and 3 psi of air in each! After my first pull one of the guys on a 700 Polaris who had Goodyear Rawhides on it came over and said like a smartazz,,, if you had some good tires like mine you could have gone farther! In the 4x4 class he pulled right before me and he only went 97 ft. LOL!!! I made my pull of 117 ft, came back and stopped and asked if he needed to borrow my tires! !!! I took the hitch off the Prairie when I bought it and put it on the 650 when I traded it in. I went to my Kawi dealer Friday when I was trying to get ready and the dealer gave me a new hitch and said go kick azz!!!! So I did!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL!!!

Hey Will,, just think if I had my 785 Four Stoke Tech big bore kit in!!!!! Maybe next time!

I got them, their great.

Lighter clutch weights, different weight placement, and a adjustable swinging hitch,

You'll be kicking A$$ and taking names!

You might find you get more pulling torque with lower octane gas.

Add a little Nitro to that

Shotgun, since you mentioned it, how much Klotz Nitro should be added to a full tank on a 650/700 Pra. without jetting up??? and how much power will it add........

Stakk;

the recomended amount is 4 oz. per gal. they claim 10% in power.

we only mix what we are going to use that day. After pulling we add gas and delute it. It doesn't like rubber or plastic, your not suppose to leave it in your tank overnight.

Only use it when you need that extra kick. We haven't had to rejet while using it.
