KOD-- It does change the clutch engagement point. THAT, and leaner jetting will bring the performance back, at altitude. The P-650 service manual discusses it. EPI and Dalton may talk about it in the sites . EPI has a tech hotline, you can speak to a tech.

KOD,

It does.

The one or two added shims will add preload and raise the rpm engagement. The lighter clutch weights bump the rpms up on top also.

Thats what I was thinking. bfb650b2 mentioned giving the P650 more low end torque but never mentioned the belt engagement. I cant understand how the high altitude clutch kit can increase torque/power? It might do it, I have never and never will need to use one.

trx450, where in the manual does it discuss it? I tried to find it. All I seen was on page 5-21 and that only told what kit to use for the elevation, it never really talks about it.

KOD-- I believe it briefly talks of the High Alt. Adjustments in the DRIVE CLUTCH section of service manual. Look in the back of the clutch sections.

KISSOFDEATH:
Didn't mean to imply that the H/A kit adds torque/power to the low end but the way the Kawasaki Tech explained it to me ( its hasbeen awhile since I talked to him) that the H/A kit allows a stall in the clutching which in turn allows some of the loss torque & power felt at the higher elevations to be less vs a P650 without the kit, if riding all the time in 7000 ft + elevations.
Ride a P650 with the H/A kit installed & ride a P650 without the H/A kit, with both P650's equipped the same & same jetting & size tires & without a doubt, you will know which P650 has the kit & which one does not. Top speed is the same for either 650 but the H/A kitted 650 will always get a jump off the line vs the un-kitted 650.
Is it worth the extra $$$ for the kit? Good question & I really don't know. I am use to the H/A clutch kit & when I ride my buddies P650 without the kit, I do notice a slight power-loss but not by much. My H/A kitted P650 seems also to have better throttle response in the entire powerband vs the unkitted P650. Both 650's are jetted the same, both have the DG Snorkle & both have the Twin-air filter & both are '03 650's. The unkitted 650 has the stock suicide tires still on, where mine at that time was using the 25 inch Titan 489's, which do hook up better.

bfb650b2. if you get the AC650 you gonna remove the clutch kit and put it in the AC right?

trx450, I read the whole chapter on the convertor system. Only thing that is mentioned is the spring spacer, it never discusses high altitude adjustment. Its ok though, I know what it is and how it works.

No If's about it, it is a done deal, I am getting the Cat 650 to replace my great P650.!
Since more than likely the person who buys my P650 will live & ride at the higher elevations, I'll just leave the kit in the P650, anyway it just makes more sense too, as a additional selling point.
I never liked the DG Holeshot that I put in my P650, just wasn't impressed with it at all. I even tried the DG with the 25 inch tires, results was a little bit more power but nothing as claimed by others. That DG Holeshot is out of the P650 & I am going to put it in the Cat 650, after I make sure everything is the same for wiring between the two. Someone in another forum suggested that maybe the H/A clutch kit is working against the holeshot, one good way to test that theory is to install the Holeshot into the non-H/A kitted Cat 650 & see what it does with the stock 26 inch tires & steel rims.
The only other thing with the Holeshot is maybe I got a Bad unit & if I did i'll give the DG crew a call & get a replacement, as DG already knows that I am not impressed with this product.

Did anyone ever find an "after market" or heavy Eqpt belt that will work on the 650. I have an 02 and want to get a 2nd belt (love for it to gear it down a bit) but dont want to rush out and pay $$$$ for the Kaw. one if I can avoid it. Also if I remachine the pull can I change the drive ratio to be lower??? I was thinking this may work. Any ideas???
