Prairie 400 2x4
#1
Just bought 99 Prairie 400 2X4. It is 8 months old. I havnt picked it up yet. I was wondering what kind of problems are common to this machine? Anyone out there have this model? How well will it get through mud with 2x4. This atv was bought new in August 99 and not used since january. That donst sound to used to me. I read the reveiw. Did anything change mechanically since 1999? I am just looking for some input from some of you that might have this atv. I have never had a 2x4 befor. But got this one cheap so had to try it.

i know someone with the 4x4
Its not nearly unstopable, he's had it stuck dozens of times. Its heavy, and the suspension seems horribly mushy on it, not supportive at all. When he makes a sharp curve, even at low speed's, the back tire comes off the ground. He has had a few problems with it, it frequently has had power loss, and other problems

Whatever you put on there make sure its as close to the 25 inch diameter as possible otherwise it changes the gearing characteristics you could probably go up a couple inches but i dont suggest going down. i put 21 inch sand tires on mine and it could barely pull itself out of its own way .

Go to any dealer and look at the different treds there are some tires out there that make your stock tires look bald such as Mudsharks,Bear Claws and Tri Claws.See If you have the clearance for 27" it will give you a faster top end more more ground clearance but will rob you on the bottom end power but a 400cc 2wd has it to spare.Guys turn four 26" mud tires on the 350 and 400cc 4wd bikes which is more work than you turning only 2 of them.A person we ride with has a 2wd 250 Moto Four with 25" back tires and we are amazed at the places he goes through.
