Rutwad,
I recently did some timed tests with the black secondary spring. You can read about it in my thread entitled "EPI Black Spring Drag Test on Asphalt" on this forum. The results on my quad (with 25 inch tires) were that the black spring does NOT reduce top-speed or acceleration times at 100 and 300 feet. In fact, my tests showed practically identical top-speeds and acceleration times with and without the black secondary spring.

Thanks guys, I always thought that the spring dropped top speed. I am GLAD I was wrong! It just "felt' a little slower. I never timed the top speed.

I'm curious (and maybe a bit confused), if your conclusions are that top-speeds and acceleration were nearly identical with and without the spring, what then is the advantage of the black spring? Belt life?

BINGO-- more belt life! My '02 P-650 had almost 3K miles on the original belt, and had one more adjustment to go, before it was out of spec.

Wheelcow,
TRX is 100% correct. The additional pressure of the black secondary spring should result in less belt slippage and therefore give the belt and clutch pulleys longer life. Happy trails...
