Default KFX 700 for Trail Riding?

I am planning on getting a new ATV in the very near future and I was curious as to how well the KFX 700 performs for aggressive trail riding. The trails that I would be riding are on the rocky side with occasional loose, rocky climbs. They aren't real steep, but steep enough that I was wondering how well the 2WD KFX would handle them. Everyone in our group rides the 4WD Utility ATV's and I leaning towards the new 700 Prairie, but I didn't want to rule out the KFX either. I absolutely love the looks of the KFX. Coming from a dirt bike background, I find the speed and nimbleness of the 2WD KFX 700 more appealing than the heavier and bulkier 700 Prairie. Would the KFX be too prone to wheelies on the climbs? Would the Prairie be a better choice for this type of riding?

I love to ride my kfx 700 on the trails . GNCC type stuff is what it does best. I had a P650 for three years ..... and yes, it would go through mud bogs I would not attempt with the V. But the speed and agility of the V on the trial is more important to me ..... after I rode the V for awhile, I couldn't ride the p650 anymore..... it just felt like "lead sled" in comparision. Sold the p650 about two weeks ago.

I had a 4x4 500HO sold it to buy V force ...Let me tell you It goes everywhere my 4x4 went(except deep mud).....rocks hills ledge mountain sides all of it.

I always avoided mud ,because I dont like to replace parts or spend more time to cleaning and repairing than ridding........

I think the V was specifically made for trail riding havn't seen any thing better for trail riding.I can go any where it can fit cept for deep mud.I've gone over stuff and was like d@mn I can't beleave I made it through there.Been through stream's,very rocky area's with large rock's,very rutty hill's,some tight wood's,under brush (You need stronger tie rod's or spares to carry along) it has gone place's I didn't want to go it's allmost unstoppable on trail's.

I totally agree with everyone, it really is impressive as far as its ability to climb, creep, and manuver through most terrain. As well as flat out haul A** when needed. I did get mine stuck in some "crazy gumbo mud" before and that was really an experience. Luckily this guy with a VW pan with winch came along and helped me and my buddy out. So far my only complaint is that Monday-Friday work schedule seems to get in the way of riding. Enjoy Get the V and proceed to the front of the pack

From what I have seen it is a great trail machine if you can handle the power and extra lbs and size.

I put a set of spider tracs on the back of mine .... big improvement over the stock tires for muddy trail ridding.

Thanks for all of the great replies. I forgot to mention that there are a fair number of mud holes on the trails too. Most of them can be avoided by simply riding around the outside edges, but there are a couple that can't be avoided. A switch of tires would be a necessity.

It will go through mud holes ..... so long as they don't cause it to high center.

Default KFX 700 for Trail Riding?

This past weekend is spent about 5 hours doing trails with friends. One of them had a KFX 700, one with a DS and me on the raptor (All bikes stocks). The V went very well, except two places. River crossings. The V will go a couple of feet and dig in. It just could not keep momentum in the loose wet sand and mud. The other two bikes went true no problems. Then we went over to the rocks, here the V got stuck a couple of times, and the thing is heavy to pull out and over some rocks. The DS to, was a handful. The raptor got stuck to, but all the guys said it was way easier to get out and over things due to its weight.

Please, I am not criticising the V here. It’s a very nice bike, but the weight is a problem in the very technical stuff.

Then the other drawback on the V was the amount of fuel it used. The V used 9.5 litres, DS650 6.5 and the raptor 5.5. (Sorry not sure what that is in gallons), so taking some extra fuel with is a good thing on long trails.
