I traded my 400ex in for a kodiak last year and have missed the sport side ever since.I got the urge to trade and decided on a grizzly but after luking in this forum I decided to ride a praire.I bought a 650 with 75 miles yesterday .nowI have some questions.the only thing that seems out of place is the tap or "clunk" from the drivetrain when letting off the gas .It does not sound terrible but did not have anything like this on the kodiak. Is this normal?next question concerns the spring.I am satisfied with the performance so will changing a spring prolong belt life if so which one?.Last question is tires any recommedations I ride mostly woods and logging/forest roads traction is needed mostly for gravel, loose dirt or logs.I don't mud much, also might just replace the crappy front tires first a get some use from the rear.thanks for any help and a big thanks for steering me in a direction I would have never went .That motor is awesome.

The clunk is normal
but a "black" spring in the rear clutch to improve belt life
My advise about the tires .... what ever tread you select ... stay with 225"diameter. I put 27"'s on my p650 .... It changed the gearing ratio, and reduced the performance a noticable amount.

The clunking could be the shift linkage needs adjustment. Check out Nyrocs site for instructions on how to do that. http://atv.dnsalias.com/
Yes the black spring will increase belt life but the most important thing to do is to check and adjust your belt to the tight end of spec. Once again Ntrocs site has the instructions.
I'll have to disagree with Vforcer a little bit. Yes bigger, heavyer tires will slow you down a hair,i think its worth it for the ground clearance.
Many people will tell you that the Prairie has plenty of ground GC but i disagree.
If you like to race and wide open is your thing, then sure stick with 25s but if you're like most of us and really like to get out in the sticks,I recommend at least 27's.
Bearclaws,Mudlights,589s and Dirt Devils and are all good tires fors what you described, but for the money,Gators are the best tire out there. Gators do it all and they do it for less money.
Congrats on your new Prairie. I know you're going to love it.

I ride the same type of terrain as you do with mountains. Nothing holds on to loose gravel very well. I like my ITP HoleSHOT ATR's. I like the off camber stability of the P650 and will not raise the center of gravity with taller tires. A little taller may not hurt much as the added weight or both in combination. The P650's power can handle the load but it is taxing the belt more than normal.
On slowish trails ride in low range and from what I hear the Black spring is the way to go.

The clunks are normal. The straight cut gears in the tranny do MOST of that clunking.
Unless you are doing serious mudding, the Holeshot ATR's, or Radial BigHorns are THE tire for fast trail riding. Either tire should have "For Use on Prairies" molded into their sidewalls!!!!!

I bought a P-700 last Friday. I NOW need to buy "real" tires for it! ATRs are calling my name.

don't have a clunk on mine, but nobody's seem to worry about that ! good! the black spring is a must and for the tires I highly recomand bear claws but be sure to buy the 26 inches, I made the mistake to buy the 25 inches and they where smaller than the original one's I change them for 26 and they are amazing espechely for the price (475$can,instalation included) before that I use to have the 589'm/s
they had amazing traction, cornering and durability but they where real stif on the steering and I paid 200$can more
