Default delay in switching to 4wd

I seem to have a unprecictable delay in switching to 4wd and back to 2wd? Is it a timed delay or do the gears just have to mesh up? any tricks getting it into 4wd quickly?

I had the same question and it was in a faq somewhere (maybe nyroc's site) that you need to be between 1.5 and 12 mph for it to switch and you should do it before you get stuck. I tested it and that seems to be the case on my 2003.

Thanks,
Dennis

the delay is normal. i find that going about 3-5mph will make it switch pretty fast

The best way to put into 4x4 is put it in reverse and go backwards about 3 feet it will be in then. dont let your wife ride it then she gets stuck then you hear a loud pop and the bike starts to hop and make clack claqck clack sounds. just dont do it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

you can go to 4x4 and back into 2x4 at any speed aslong as your rear tires arent spining. by spining i mean like in the mud or in snow it puts excess pressure on your front diff. thats the pop i described in the post above. remember to always put it into 4x4 before you need to . in some occasions i have been stuck and then tried to slowly spin then it engages and if your front tires or tire has traction when you try to engage four wheel drive it will pop in and out as i desribed above also.
