Default Bad Results with HPD Plain in V!

Well this weekend confirmed it, my buddy has a 04 yfz450 with a cam, pipe, jet kit, and filter in it. We raced about a month ago with my epi pink spring in, and he got me at the end by about a bike length. This weekend I put my plain spring in, and I beat him off the line good, but after about 150 feet, he just walked off and left me. I usually eat a piped raptor for lunch, but I was gettin ate up by them all weekend. It royally pissed me off to where the v got put on the trailer and the ol banshee was called into action. I had to go rebuild my ego, and it sure did it. Just cant beat the ol banshee. I was having 2nd thoughts about the v cause of this, I even went to talk to my buddy about trading it in on a 450 or raptor...... Im gonna put the pink back in and tear the banshee down to make a alky dragster. So we will see how it does. Just thought id share my pain.. lol..

I had pretty much the same experience a couple days ago on my V racing my cousins Pred. they were

pretty much even for the first 100 Feet and then he pulled away HARD!. I had my HPD plain

installed and the funny thing is that when I had the pink in months before, I kept up with him pretty good.

When I got home, I noticed that my plugs looked like I had dipped them in tar! I was running really

rich and am hoping that was my problem. Could that have been your problem also?

Well, shoot. You all are gonna make me go do some time trials with both of mine. Once my duals get here I will go make some runs with both and see what is best.

I am with 3tv on that, I think the auto, weight, etc. holds the V back. I cant beat a modded raptor anyday, let alone a 450.

I feel your pain. Springs will make some difference, the down fall of the V, p650 and p700 is the size of the clutches. Kawi has limited top speed that way, with no way of changing it.

If you had clutches the size of a smowmoble, you would have that same pull all the way to 100 mph.

A lot of people are scratching their heads, someone will come up with an answer.

Hey highlifter,
I was there last weekend on my V, saw yours in the back of your truck. Mine is bone stock, just bought it a week ago (flipped it saturday). Jason said that the HMF's made a lot of power for you, how do you like them. If that was that blue yfz that was out there he was pretty dang fast and not to mention the bike is over 150 lbs. lighter. Let me know how the spring change works out. I was just about to order the hpd but I'm not to sure if that is the kind of results I would get against a pink.

Im not saying that I want to be able to beat him, I cant. I was alot closer to him before I put the hpd is what I was saying. With the pink in, he had me about a bike length and gaining on a long drag. And topside, I put hmf duals, jet kit, and a K&N on mine, stock it had about 32 hp, now its making a good 38 hp. I understand the v is not a good drag racer, I was just comparing the differences between the 2 springs, and a little upset. Im talkin to my buddy at the yamaha dealer about trading it in for a yfz450.. But its looking like im gonna have to sell it myself.

That just doesn't add up, the shiftout is alot higher with the plain over the pink spring, it had to of been something else I could really tell the difference mid-range all the way to the topMaybe try the pink and race, and then the plain on the same day so all the elements will be the same?

I also am ditching my HPD plain in favor of the EPI bright green.....I lost some against a YZF 450 as well with the plain, my buddy told me he thought it was not as quick as when the EPI spring was in....thinking about the pink also.
