Default Lakota Air Box

Am I carzy or is the Lakota Sport air box HUGE!! it seems to be an endless piece of black plastic bending around every inch of free space between the engine and the top of the frame. Is there a reason for this? What would happen if I removed it all together?

I took the whole thing off and replaced it with a uni clamp on.

Any regrets? If not where can I find one of these "uni clamp ons" Also did you install any kind of splash shield around the intake to prevent water from splashing up on it?

No regrets. I got the uni at a local stealer. I have no added protection around it but i have never ran into a problem yet with water. I ride in some pretty deep puddles and cross some streams. You will have clearance up to around 2 feet. What do you have done to your kota?

I just took possesion of a 13 toth sprocket and a DG exhaust. I also have a K&N stock replacement filter and I will rejet it when im done. I am working on removeing some excess weight aswell. I would consider other bolt ons if theywhere easy to find but its my wifes ride so I haven't searched to hard.

A uni clamp on is just that. A uni filter brand filter thats clamps onto the carb, and nothing else. The airbox that is on the lakota is absurd, but I'd be very leary of running an open filter in the conditions I ride in. It'd get splashed with mud/water for sure.

Being in Southern California I dont ride in mud or rain (much) but I would have went ahead with this mod anyway. After re-jet the lokota is significantly more powerfull than before. Aside from regearing, removing the airbox has been the most rewarding mod to date.

P.S. I have rode in wet muddy conditions without any problems but I wouldnt reccomend stream crossings with this mod.
