I adjusted mine to w/in a 3/8 inch of the top of the threads. It seems good to me for fast trail riding w/ a fully loaded cargo box. Trial and error will help you to find the best place for you. I found it easiest to adjust by removing the shock from the quad. Good luck w/ it!

I adjusted mine to the max tension. It's not easy but I used a hardened
steel rod and a hammer to turn the nut. The key supplied with the bike
only works if you take the shock off. I blew my first shock out by jumping
with a cargo box on the back + a 2 gal jug of gas in a bakrack. Don't want
to blow this one so I took the gas rack off.

Skun, you need to start a new thread. I'm sure someone will help you out.

I don't know all the technicalities of the black spring, but I do know that it helps your belt ingage sooner which saves your belt in the long run. My 2003 650 doesn't seem to need one as it will creep on it's own if I raise the idle up- belt engageing early enough for me.

the black spring helps it down shift faster. tt racing i had a problem with slowing down for the corners and when i pushed the throttle down to pick up speed it didn;t down shift witch felt like it was in 3rd gear instead of 1st or 2nd. the black sring completely cured that promblem.sometimes the stock spring worked good but occationlly it didn't.( secondary spring), hope this help!
