From the October 2003 Edition of 4-Wheel ATV Action:
"New Independent Rear Suspension Kawasaki 4X4 coming?
ATV Action investigative reporters--okay, spies--recently discovered that Kawasaki is testing a large sport-utility ATV with independent rear suspension (IRS). If IRS were added to a machine such as the Prairie 700, it could give this powerful 4X4 the only two things it lacks: rut-conquering ground clearance due to the elevated rear gear case position typical in IRS systems, and a more plush ride in rocks. It will be interesting to see how Kawasaki will deal with the bothersome body roll present on some IRS quads. As yet, the model to get IRS is unconfirmed. The 700 is the logical candidate, but an entirely new 500 4X4 is also a possibility. We'll keep you posted."
A little IRS on the Prairie? Hmmmm...I don't know. I used to have a 2002 Grizzly and found the body roll (and the squatting while towing) quite annoying. Wouldn't it be great if they'd designed it so one could, relatively easily, swap the two in and out? Not holding my breath here.
Still though...and IRS on a Prairie. The others might as well follow Suzuki and toss in the towel.
Moo,

BTW...This 4-Wheel ATV Action Magazine? Relatively new to me, but a darn fine publication! I do believe I'll subscribe. I've been taking Dirtwheels for a little over two years, but canceled ATV Magazine after they named the Polaris 700 "ATV of the Year".

You know how rumors go but I did see on here just the other day that a guy stated he ran into a Kaw rep out west and we was told not to get an 04 because the 05 will have EFI.That actually makes sense but he did not say anything about it having IRS.I personally feel EFI is coming big time because of the 06 epa standards and because Polaris now has it.Personally it can't get here quick enough for me....

I hope Kawi realizes that there a a number of Praire owners out there that purchased the Prarie because of a preference of axle over IRS. Turning the Praire into and independent rear isnt a selling point for me. Now EFI is a different story, you guys can beg for and independent rear and Ill beg for a EFI Praire.

I would have to agree my quad rides fine with a solid axle and I like putting 400 or 500 pounds on it and it stills has 7 or 8 inches of ground clearance the irs squat down to what my cousins 90 has which is about O I would love efi though never another time of choking and waiting. I doubt that they will give us much more power the 700 already has nearly 50 hp heck some cars don't have that and it only weighs 600 pounds!!! Who Knows?
