The tighter the tension the faster the hook up. The looser the tension the more rpm's it takes to get te machine moving and the belt fully engaged. Tighter spring = faster response but lower mid/top end. A looser spring= slower response and more mid/top. It is like playing with a snowmobile clutch too. Ever hear the rpms a sled with a clutch kit needs to pull before the sled actually moves? I hope that answers your wonderful questions?

Uhhh, no.
More spring tension means means more stall and slower hookup. Less spring tension (like the sorry stock spring) means instant engagement, low shiftout and no RPM's on top.
A "tighter" spring as you say, stiffer as most of us would say, gives MORE mid/top RPM's. A "looser" spring gives instant engagement quicker shiftout and less RPM's on top.
If you really understood then you'd know how held-back the V is by the stock spring.
Time to go back to class.

Not even close. We've had about 6 straight weeks of bad weather.
Its supposed to get up in the 50's this weekend, so if it doesn't rain we'll probably head out. Still way too muddy to put the beat-down on the Yamahas, but I'd like to at least get a seat-of-the-pants test on pavement.

In a 300ft.run my buddy used a stop watch to clock me and if I remember right I ran a 5.79 or around there. His pimped out Banshee was almost a second quicker.I can hang with most that pull up next to me.I still dont have cams or cdi yet

Kevin, You are correct. I had my information backwards. I looked at my spring kit for my Vinson and you are absolutely correct. I do however believe that if Kawasaki got rid of that damn auto tranny and shaft drive they would have the top sport quad on the market. Until then i will stick with my Baja X which is considered by many to be the best overall built sport quad made. At least it is the fastest stock quad made.

And c'mon it's just plain dumb to compare modified quads (your piped and jetted raptor) to stock quads.
Some folks are like a broken tape recorder... no matter what is said or what is asked their answer is "raptor rules... raptor rules... raptor rules" my freakin' parrot knows more phrases.
Yes yes yes a YFZ450 (wannabe race quad) is a nice fast quad. Fine. Whoopee. Spend about 6,000 bucks extra and you can almost turn a YFZ-450 into a Gas Gas 450 or some other actual race ready quad that will STOMP it.
V-Force vs YFZ-450 is like Cadillac Escalade vs. Nissan 350Z. Apples and Oranges. Do you get my drift? It's not a smart comparison.
Here's a simple way to figure out your ATV IQ: Start with 100 points. Subtract 10 points for every time you've said "such and such quad is the best and such and such quad sucks" By the time you get down to 70, save what little intelligence you have and shut up about it. Or, read some articles, do some research, and you get +10 points every time you intelligently say something like "under such and such conditions, such and such ATV may out perform such and such ATV depending on mods, tires, etc."

Chris Pappy, AUTO's will never win an MX race against manuals!! Of course something as HEAVY as the Vforce would never win in MX either!!! If you put the Pro's in the Open MX classes with the Big Bore quads, they would HUMILIATE the big bores due to size, weight, and just plain power!

If it had reverse, I'd already own a Bomb.

The V has already won a 24-hour endurance race, won their class at the Baja 500, Eichner has a WORCS wins with it, Jackie Meadows is doing very well in TT with one and the GNCC results speak for themselves.

I can add something to this topic, being as I bought my 13 year old kid a new YFZ last friday, and I have a V-Force myself.
The V-Force is stock with the following exceptions: K&N air filter; stock airbox snorkel removed; main jets have been changed to 138 front, and 140 rear (stock is 135 front and 140 rear).
The YFZ is entirely 100% stock, and the race was done with the YFZ being at the end of its second tank of gas, so it was not even fully broken in.
We raced at 3000 ft elevation on a hard packed graded dirt road, and paced off 300 ft to make it as "standardized" as possible.
The V-Force got the holeshot, by about 1 1/2 quad lengths, but the YFZ caught it and was leading by ten inches when we crossed the finish line. After the race I was feeling pretty good about the V-Force finishing within a foot of the "fastest sport quad on the market", until my son told me that he "wheelied in first and second gears, and missed the shift to third". And he still beat me
YFZs are pretty quick, my kid is acting like he hit the jackpot in vegas right now.
