SHOULD I GET MY MONEY BACK? JUNK PRAIRIE 650
Hello, Thanks for all your replies, except for two of you that are AHOLES you know who you are....(nova scotia **** and dangerous dog doo) I have spoken to the dealer and they have been very good about this although some of you thought I was bashing the dealer. Which I never did but your a jerk off "dangerous" so I understand. Just put a bishop in your a$$ and shut the f**k up. The dealer has agreed to either fix or trade in my wheeler, haven't asked about getting my money back yet. Thought I would wait till I see what I can get new. Found a couple of other problems with it. The key takes 10 minutes to get in with jiggling here and there, also when you shift into hi or lo from neutral it kinda grinds a bit. Someone told me it shouldn't do that. Also on cold starts it backfires thru the carbs. I could fix these problems myself even though dangerous dog doo thinks I should be playing chess, but why should I? I payed for a machine that was told to me to be in great shape but wasn't all that. If these things had happened over a month or two no big deal, but it all happened with less then five miles on it on a dirt road, thats bullsh*t. The dealer is a good lot of people and I have no problems with them. Things just happen.

Honda,
Thats great the dealer is working with you so well, its nice to see one that does. But didnt you test this machine at all before you bought it? Seems like alot of these problems would be obvious. The key just needs a drop over oil probably though, mine was doing the same thing. Good luck.

I obviously didn't check it well enough. The dealer had it in a well heated showroom when I test rode it. So it never popped at all, and it only does now when it's cold. when it warms up it's fine. The guy who delivered it couldn't start it to take it off the truck. He tried and tried and started to panic and was going to change the plugs and such, but here in Maine it was 7 below zero that day, my jeep had problems starting that day and it is new so i wasn't surprised. The key was already in it and now I guess I know why. lol I never checked the key. And the front end I checked out throughly, I turned it hard left and right to check the cv's, I put it in and out of 2 and 4 wheel drive. I did notice that it had a bit of a grind thing going on when shifting it but it wasn't terrible. I have never owned an ATV that had this auto shift stuff so I wasn't sure how it was supposed to act. I heard from someone on here that it's supposed to go in perfectly smoothly. Anyone with a reply to that?

If the dealer will give you the same amount on a trade in, as what you paid for your quad, it may be a good idea to get a new bike. You will probably be much happier. But exept for the oil leak, it doesn't seem like much is wrong with your bike.
For the key problem, it's either 2 things. It either needs some oil to oil it up, or water got into the key hole, and it's frozen a bit. If you got the cold temperature in Maine that we got here in New Brunswick, it probably was frozen. As for the grinding noise when shifting into gear, this is totally normal for a P650. You will notice that if you shift slow, it will really do it, but it you quickly go from Neutral to High, it will hardly do it. As for the backfires in the carbs when cold, this is also normal on a 650. Just let the bike warm up and it will go away after a few minutes of iddling. If you had purchased a new 700, it would still do these last 2 things.
But like the other mention, you may want to look at getting a trailler for your quad, since it will eventually have to go back to the dealer. And if you start adding up the $100 for transportation, a trailler can be paid for quite quickly.

So what do you think about getting a new one? I really liked the wheeler. It has tons of power, the motor seems to be in good shape, but the axle on the front right side has problems. You can tell that it was replaced with a new axle recently and I'm wondering if either it was put back together wrong or there is some underlying problem that is making it pop the that the rubber boot attaches to out. Its more then just a leaking seal. Thoughts?

I would say that it's your call. Like I said before it doesn't seem like much is wrong with your quad. Exept for that front axles problem that the dealer is willing to fix for you, you seem to have a great quad.
If you think that something is very wrong with your quad, and you can afford to get a new one, then maybe you should get one. But personallly I'd probably just get the used one fixed, and keep it.

Also, I found out the wheeler was purchased new from the dealer I got it from then traded in to the same dealer for a Honda Rincon, so they have probably done all the work on it and knew what was up. My buddy says "see should've bought a new direct shaft drive honda instead of a belt driven Kawasucki" lol

Honda.... I bought a new P700 and the problems your talking about are normal. My sis-in-law bought a new Honda rincon and she is having similar problem with the key and rough starts on these really cold days. All carb motors are a bit finiky when it's really cold.
- for the key problem.... spray WD-40 into the key switch before rides.. it keeps it from freezing.. or use lock deicer.
- for the grinding when shifting LOW/HI .... lower your rpms... mine was set too high from the factory, and just lowering it a little stopped the grinding bit. The adjuster is on the right side, just by your right knee. ( a plastic twist ****) What I do is when the bike is cold, I twist it two turns so it doesn't die or chugg.... then once it's warm, I twist it back two turns... this way it doesn't chugg, and doesn't grind when shifting.
btw.. never underestimate a belt drive bike.. my brother has a 2yr old P650 with 4,000 miles on it.. on the SAME BELT!!! Just take care of it.. ride in low when riding slow, and adjust it occassionally... easy!!

I knew it, once someone you know starts ribbing you about getting a Kawi, you start looking for everything that could possibly be wrong and it puts a sour taste in your mouth. Anybody who is telling you you should have bought a direct shaft drive Honda because of this little thing shouldnt go ATV shopping with you :-) wearing "Honda blinders" really limits the fun you can have on a quad.
A few days of research on this site would have helped with all but the key thing, and mine does that when its cold too. If you do get a new bike, research it on the forums and see what people are working on first. That will give you a good idea of whats normal and what isnt. However once you start thinking its junk, its hard to get it out of the back of your mind. good luck.
