I have been searching online for a set of 2 way radio's that I can use for riding, the purpose is to have one hand-set at let's say the camp or house and another with me out riding in the woods behind my house or with another riding buddy in case we get seperated. I don't know if those Motorola "Walk-Abouts" have enough power, anybody have any suggestions or have experience with what I am describing?
Thanks for any help with this....

For splitting up very far, I suggest the 5-mile range radios. The 2-mile versions do work well, but for line of sight. Once you start getting obstacles in the way (ie trees, hills, houses) the range is cut fairly significantly. The five mile versions have worked pretty well up and over 2 miles (including obstacles) for me thus far.

There are new ones that have 10 mile range. Check out the link below or do a Google search!

me and my dad have motorola walkie talkies. we havent had a chance to test them out while were riding yetbut they have 5mile range (i think could be 10) they also have a feature that you can set to block out background noise and a vibration setting so you can use them if you hunt. we also got the earpeice with a mic on it so we can use it easier in the helmets.

We tried using a set of motorolas with headsets and they would only work when sitting still otherwise the ATVs were making to much noise to hear plus you had to use one hand to push the talk button. VOX mode was worthless as well with all of the ATV noise. So we gave up...

I agree with Mike about the noise when using these types of radios. There are some helmet radios that do work well (best with full face).
Here is a link to the ones I like and use, MP3 player sounds good too when hooked up to these units. The hands free VOX feature works well to keep the engine noise
from activating the mic.
