you been hosed, ty. tell your dad not to go anywhere near that dealer again.
A few hours soaking in carb cleaner and a good blow out would have cured the
carb problems. And, while it is possible to get moisture damage in a cylinder,
a honing and new rings would have fixed it. There is no way the liner was
falling apart, and it shouldn't have hurt the piston at all. The piston is
aluminum after all.

Hosed to the max.

smells fishy

sounds like you and dad have more $$$ than time

(quads in storage for a year),,,,,,heck, thats quad abuse,,,,,a $78 ticket in my book

get your old parts for sure,,,,,and maybe start getting some 2nd opinions before you repair in the future

realistically the only way in 1 year, that you could have had that kind of damage, is if the storage was on the ocean front, or you rode alot down the ocean beach, before putting it away... however, all of your electrical connections would be fried in both of these circumstances, before your piston or cylinder walls would have been damaged... I suppose ( & I'm grasping at straws here ), that if you had done some saltwater beach riding, & had gotten salt water in your oil, then washed the quads, but did not change the oil, it could have happened ??? could the engine have been hydrolocked with gas draining out of the carbs, & broke when the engine turned over ???... however, if this condition was present, the oil would have been flowing out of the oil cap, when removed, & would have been highly diluted with gas, leaking by the rings, over time...
