Mine will only go 61 or 62 mph on a long straight stretch. Everything stock.

So what determines or would effect the top speed? Lets say the belt deflection was in-spec. what else could slow down a machine. Carb settings? Jets? I have even wondered about the exhaust flow. What is everyone elses thought on this. And has anyone increased top speed by doing something.

Mines not really broke in yet(33 miles), so I haven't really pinned it, yet. I have had it up to 50 MPH a couple of times, but acceleration REALLY drops off after 45 MPH. Is this normal?

I have an '02 and I've never seen 60 mph on it. I've even had it back at the dealer I bought it from and the mechanic couldn't figure out why mine was slower than the others. Maybe because mine is one of the very first ones released (low vin #). BTW, I've never been able to pull a wheelie either! I have a feeling my belt tension is off - I do plan on checking it soon.

the dead spot in the midrange is normal with a stock 650 clutch spring. A p700 spring on any other aftermarket spring will wake up the beast in the middle. With the outlaws the fastest i cared to go was 55......has ALOT of front end wandering then!!! With the ATRs i've been as fast as 62mph and seemed to have PLENTY left to go!! Never really seen top end on mine!!

Everyone with larger tires, needs to figure that into their speed.

For example, my stock tires, which my speedo is cal. to travel 78.5 inches every rev.

My pulling tires, travels 97.34 inches each rev. so I would need to add 8 % to the speed.

70 Mph = 75.6

If I did it right. GPS is the best way.
